According to 411, who got it from 1Wrestling, WWE is banning Hurricane Helms from using the Vertebreaker move. This is a preventive measure to help curb the recent spate of neck injuries.
Not much of a big deal, since I think Helms used the move maybe 2-3 times since he joined WWE.
Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Rogers Clemens clucking all the while. Mike Scioscia's tragic illness made us smile. While Wade Boggs lay unconscious on the barroom tile. We're talkin'... Softball. From Maine to San Diego. Talkin'... Softball. Mattingly and Canseco. Ken Griffey's grotesquely swollen jaw. Steve Sax and his run-in with the law. We're talkin' Homer... Ozzie and the Straw.
Angle and Edge weren't taking the Vertebreaker... they were taking regular rolling and release German suplexes. I've seen both of those guys land awkwardly from those (but not as awkwardly as Sabu).
Of course, Angle had an existing problem, and I'm sure Edge's TLC matches had something to do with the recent injuries, but those Benoit bumps weren't helping anyone.
I'm glad you mentioned Sabu, because he is what every wrestler should be, a nonstop bumping machine. I oppose any wrestling move being made illegal in the WWE, ESPECIALLY the tarantula and the katihajime.
Are the tarantula and the katihajime illegal? I like the high-impact moves as much as anyone, but WWE needs to protect its assets and its assets are the wrestlers. For my money, there are plenty of ways to entertain the viewers without having their top guys constantly landing on their necks ala the german suplexes. I think it's just a matter of training the viewers not to expect those kinds of moves, then maybe busting them out on very rare occassions for extra impact.

Last I checked, the only reason the Tarantula was "illegal" was because the wrestlers are in the ropes while the hold is applied, which is illegal. It's not banned in the "this move can't be done ever" sense.
And since when was the Tazzmission illegal? Tazz used it all the time.
I've only seen Hurricane use the move on Heat against guys like Justin Credible and Raven.
That being said, the WWE is probably a better place without it. Get away from the high risk stuff, or you'll have guys with recurring problems later on.
Meatwad make the money see, Meatwad get the honeys G Drivin in my car, livin' like a star Ice on my fingers and my toes and I'm a Taurus.
Well, let's see... If they BAN the Vertebreaker, then they should BAN the powerbomb (the running variety hurt Droz but good), the German Suplex, the Pedigree, the Impaler, the DDT, the Hurricanrana and all other moves that even GRAZE the neck. Heck, make every match nothing but armbars and leglocks.
Being preventative is one thing, but crippling the movesets of half the roster is something else all together.
The Chase Is On: 8th: Oilers [28-23-8-8] 72pts; 15 games left 14th: Flames [21-31-10-4] 56pts; 16 games left Flames must win 7 more games than the Oilers do to make playoffs Any combination of 8 Oilers wins or Flames losses eliminates them from the playoffs
How about banning all unprotected neck moves, then?
Put me in the column of a guy who'll miss the Vertebreaker. As mentioned earlier, it came out VERY rarely...and that's what made it cool in WWE; you never knew when/if you'd get to see it.
Matthew Good - Playing Calgary March 24th AND 25th. Be there.
I'm personally glad they are banning the move. I cringed every time I saw that one b/c dropping a guy straight down on his neck unprotected is just plain scary.

Neither of those guys took the move. Stevie took it twice (this Sunday's Heat included), and somebody else (I want to say AJ Styles for some reason) took it once.
Nobody has gotten hurt taking the move from Helms, including Stevie, who is known for having various neck injuries, but I understand the WWE's concern in light of the injuries to Edge & Angle. It's not like it has been a regular part of his move-set since coming to the WWE, but hopefully they'll let him use it on special occasions (i.e. if he ever gets on a PPV).
Matthew: You would've loved it, David. A week in a foreign country, strange people, strange customs... Dave: Oh, I know what you mean. I've been to Canada.
I really think the German suplex is the most dangerous move that they are still allowing. I don't think there's a problem with it being used sparingly, but in any SD match that went over 20 minutes every threw about ten of them and it just doesn't make sense to allow that to happen. Especially when there are fifty-seven other stiff suplexes out there that could be used.
"Whatever I just posted above is what your mother said in bed last night."
The german suplex thing wouldn't be so bad if HALF THE DAMNED ROSTER wasn't using it now. How many guys are using germans, let alone multiple-german suplexes?!? I honest to God wouldn't be surprised if there are more german suplexes in a Smackdown show than clotheslines.
Seriously, what the hell is the point of doing 4 of them in a row and risking injuring the guy if the audience doesn't give a shit about it because you're the 8th guy that night to do the move?

FYI the ECW title match has been changed to a Triple Threat Kane vs. Show vs. Henry. I'm SURE this will convince many of you undecided buyers to purchase the PPV now! *Throws up in mouth*
