So, I'm outside DC this morning, getting ready to drive to the metro station to go downtown (and sit in with Mr Tony's radio show).
Time: 7:10 AM Distance needed to travel: 11 miles
How long would you think that should take? Even with rush hours, like 30-45 minutes?
Nope. 1 hour, 20 minutes. To go 11 miles.
Accidents? None. Just commuter traffic.
ARGH! I was almost late (thanks to a full parking garage and getting off at the wrong metro stop.)

It takes me 10 minutes in light traffic and good weather to get to downtown Calgary from my house. In snowy conditions and rush hour traffic, it's 45 minutes.
On a good day, though, I could drive to Edmonton in 1hr and 20 minutes. Edmonton. Think about it.
Traffic sucks beyond belief.

Worst is Vegas. An hour and a half to go 5 miles down the strip. At 2 AM. Oy.
I have a special friend. He's the baby Jesus and I love him and...and...he don't give me no s**t and he don't f**k around and he's just the f**king coolest guy and I wanna say I love the baby Jesus.I can't say enough.I love the baby Jesus and I think...he's the best thing and he's really great when he shares his love for everbody. You know what I mean?I can't even see a manger without thinkin' about him,eh?I just love the Jesus.I've only been into him for a couple of hours though, but I'm really into him. --Bruce McCulloch
I feel like the smart guy here. When I would have to be at work at 8am, it would take me 45 minutes to go 15 miles to work and over an hour (sometimes 1:30) to get home. Now, I have to be to work at 6:30am. It takes me 20 minutes to get to work and about 30 minutes to get home. It sucks to have to beat the traffic. It starts on I-15 here just before 4. If I'm not on that freeway by 4, I'm dead. And you can just forget about I-805 after 3:30. No chance in hell. The worst part of it??? I listen to the traffic, and it's the same damn thing everyday.

Haha. I try to feel bad for you but once you live with THE BIG DIG its hard to think anyone else has it hard. Within a span of a week the main highway in Boston can change 3 times (new temp exits, new temp lanes). Once I was stupid enough to try and go from north of the city to south of the city at around 5PM, BIG MISTAKE. Its only about 5 miles total. It took me 3 hours. There was no accident. The highway goes from 4 lanes to 2 lanes. That’s it. 3 hours because losing two lanes.

But how was the show? Did you get on the air? I missed the show....
He's Rolie Polie Olie - and in his world of curves and curls, he's the swellest kid around.
When I lived in St. Louis, I had the nice early too work get off early from work schedule so it took me 10 minutes to get downtown. Up here at the University of Iowa I would tell you how traffic normally is, but people up here don't seem to be familiar with the words traffic or rush hour, mabe rush 10 minutes, but not rush hour.

That's coming at some point. I didn't have time yesterday. I was too tired when I got home and my brian hurt.
No, I didn't make air, but I got three mentions.

You mean that wasn't you laughing at the first mention of your name?
I feel so cheated. I thought it was you!
ON topic - Traffic? In Oconomowoc? Only if a non-local stops to try to pronounce the damn city name!

Well, in interests of full disclosure, I didn't get a chance to tape yesterday's show (since I was, youknow, there) so I can't vouch for that. It was probably Ray, since I really wasn't near a hot mike.

Traffic coming in from the DC Beltway ? Unheard of....I always hated the last 10 miles of every business trip to DC and the stretch of I-95 just north of Wilmington......I also hated driving past one of the most hated arenas in sports - the appropriately named FU Center - I always gave it the single digit salute
My commute into NYC everyday is 1hr 45m in the morning and 2hr+ coming home and I live about 45 miles outside of the city to the west

Well, it mores like 2 hours and 10 minutes...my brother CLAIMS to have done it in under 70 minutes, but that would involve a LOT of speeding.
So, I'm assuming that's what he did.
All-in-all, though, Cow-town is pretty bad for traffic nowadays. The entire traffic infrastructure was designed and built in the 1960s and 70s, before the HUGE oil boom sent the population from just over 100,000 in the mid-70s to just under a million today. Eek. And the government is too damned cheap to fix things.

70 minutes to go 300 km - thats 250+km/hr (>150 miles/hr for you yanks). Remind me never to be on the highway when your brother's on the road. Also, if the cops catch him he could do jail time. Yikes.
Holy shit!!! Go look at this because this is quite possibly the coolest thing EVER on Ebay next to that fighter jet a few months ago. THIS is why the internet is so fucking COOL!!!
