Well, I went to my first TV taping. Some random thoughts.

- I won't spoil Heat for anyone, but let's just say that the most prevalent thing that was said by the crowd was "What the hell is RVD doing wrestling on Heat?".

- The crowd loved the Rock. Not in a "Let's pop for him" way, but they were into everything he was doing. They booed him at the apropriate times, but he had us all in the palm of his hand. He truly is an amazing performer and I'm going to miss him when he goes off and makes his crappy movies. I wish him the best of luck, I think he's more talented than Vin Diesel, but I keep having this feeling that he'll appear as the bad guy in "Spy Kids 4" when it's all said and done.

- I now know why Test isn't over. He's handcuffed to the ring ropes, his girlfriend is getting beat up, he's about 2 feet away from a steel chair.... and he doesn't pick it up to whack Christian with it, who's about 1 foot away from him, jawing at him. He chose instead to paw at the air around Jericho. No one can get behind a guy who has the intelligence of a thermos. (By the way, the funniest part of that match was everyone chanting for HBK. When he finally came out, they all booed him. Then his music played and they cheered. Hey, my town is nothing but consistent.)

- It was so quiet during the Jazz/Jackie match, I thought I was at a Blue Jay game.

- You really have to go to a live event to appreciate how fat and useless 3 Minute Warning is.

- This show was all set up for Booker to get over.... and let's just say that it wasn't exactly a rousing sucess. They popped for his entrance, the spinarooni and him throwing out the Rock, but they weren't really into him like I thought they would be. I think they waited too long to do this feud and they need to do a lot of work to build him up in people's eyes as a legit threat if the crowd was any indication. When the cameras went off, Rock took the mic and asked for Booker to come back. He then told the crowd to chant for Booker on the count of 3.... and about 9 people did it. Rock made a joke about it being late and we had to do better than that, and to be fair, the second time around, the crowd DID chant for him, but they didn't exactly tear the roof off.

- The end of the show was awesome, with the Rock just being entertaining as hell. He called Booker back to the ring and asked Booker to do a spinarooni, which he did. Then Booker asked the Rock to do one, which he said he would, but before he did, he made fun of some Japanese photographers at ringside and said after he was done, he's whip Booker's ass. While he was setting up for the spinarooni, the crowd started chanting his name. He did a (piss poor) spinarooni, immediately after Booker Rock-Bottomed him and gave him a People's Elbow. After Booker left, Rock, while sitting on the mat, gave the line of the night: "Boy, that Rock Bottom hurts like hell." Honestly, the Rock made the show. You can really tell he enjoys being out there, and the fact that he let Hurricane and Booker get heat on him says a lot about the guy as a performer.

- HHH wasn't there at all. Guess he was busy finishing up his resume to apply for the head writer on Smackdown.

- Biggest pops (no particular order)

1. The guy who was shooting T-shirts out into the crowd
2. Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross
3. The Rock after the cameras went off
4. RVD/The Hurricane
5. Jerome (Junkyard Dog) Williams.

- Biggest heel heat

1. The guy who was shooting T-shirts out into the crowd when he stopped
2. Scott Steiner's T-shirt, which was hyped up by Howard Finkel
3. Scott Steiner
4. The Rock during the RAW
5. Earl Hebner. (Guys, it was over 7 years ago, get over it.)

I dunno, maybe I saw it different, but I had a hell of a time and can't wait to go back. The only real complaint is the fact that 2 beers costs about the same as the Gross National Product of Libya.

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

Been there, done that. At the Ottawa Smackdown tapings last year, right after Wrestlemania X-8, RVD worked with the late Mr. Perfect on Heat. RVD on Heat: nothing new to me.

I came across a videotape the other day which had an episode of Heat from the early days of The Alliance, when ECW and WCW guys had different chyron. It also had that RVD/Jerry Lynn Heat main event.

It's a total waste of RVD to be stuck on Heat though, when all the fans know he's better than that!

Sorry, but he's not really better than that. The man bores me to death at this point in time, he just can't get past his stale-as-all-Hell ring style.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS A RANT OF ONE OF THE BIGGEST RVD MARKS EVER. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

I have to say that the style is a little stale, however when the fans are as far behind RVD as they are don't you think the WWE should give him a shot with a major title, and I don't fucking mean that damn tag belt!

Best part of going to a Live Raw, not the fireworks, not the big screen... The best part of going to Raw live is the ability for 2 hours to see Lillian Garcia in her short skirt go in and out of the ring at least a dozen times. She really is one of those people that look even better in person.

Other good pops for the night. The women match was quiet but once Ahahaha OH! hit it got a pretty huge pop. ON TV they turned off the crowd response for the Goldust interview but in the arena they were laughing out loud and applauded him after the interview ended. Plus after the nation anthem the crowd responded very nice to Lillian, she did a good job as well, plus she's uber hot.

I agree the "You Screwed Bret" chant is tired and old. But I did like an annoying chant having a negative effect on Lawlers match. Like Lawler puppies chant has a negative effect on some good women matches. Kind of ironic

I think at this point, half or more then half of the people don't even know why they're chanting "You Screwed Bret!"

Like people that chant ECW in markets where ECW wasn't even in.

That's why I think Michaels got the face reaction because I think a lot of the current fans didn't experience Survivor Series 97. They know about the screwjob and associate Vince and Hebner with it, not Shawn.

i think the problem, and yes this is most definitely a problem, is that the wwe brass want all world title holders to wrestle the same exact style, or at least some form of it. rvd has a more gimmicky spot-based style, as opposed to the triple h - rock - steve austin - mick foley brawling style. thus, he is not 'world champion material.'

while i do feel that he's a little boring to throw into the main event mix at this point, i don't think that's the reason for his lack of ascension to world champ.

I would say that throwing a different style into the main event mix could be pretty entertaining. Sometimes you can see a mix of styles and it comes off looking great.

My problem with RVD would be more down to his complete inability to sell his opponents moves over the course of a match. If he can learn to do that and the WWE manage to give him a more engaging personality to work with then we might see him winning one of those big shiny belt things

Is that why RVD got three spots on RAW (including promo time) and the other guy got none?

It's quite simple, really. Triple H knew that RVD wasn't nearly over enough to affect Rocky's heat, so he could be on the show all he wanted. However, if Triple H, who, as we know, is the greatest heel ever, had appeared on the show in any form, it would have detracted from Rocky's heel act. He's just being a company man.

It seems like there have been more ref bumps in matches in the last few years. Most of them is not necessary, but some is necessary to bring a match to its climactic point. You just don't need it every week. How do I know that a ref bump is coming.
