Nowhere in the WWE is the booking anywhere near the level of the long term build they've given to Booker T. It's pretty much been a year long culmination of a masterful story (intentional or not i'll give them the benefit of the doubt) and i could not wipe the smile off my face for the entire post match segment.

also the Rock had me smiling/laughing all through his entire time on my tv.

Let me be the first to say that Raw tonight far surpassed my expectations on all levels and although i truly loath the Rock in the ring, and have for every second since he was in the ring on my tv, i have to give credit where it's due and say that all the goodness from tonights show either emenated or was a result of that man.

Congratulations WWE, Rock, Booker T and Hurricane, those who are the providers of entertainment

...But remember this. ROCK...CRUSHES...SCISSORS...but scissors cuts paper...and paper wraps rock...KIFF, we have a conundrum.

WWE pretty much *needs* to put the belt on Booker T. There are few credible threats to HHH left on the RAW roster, and the Rock's really only there for a guest appearance. Besides, Rock was talking about Austin during most of RAW - I believed it was a foregone conclusion that he wouldn't be facing HHH instead.

Of course, HHH has never been one to consider the needs of WWE, has he?

I still think Austin-HHH was the better way to go, but at least they set it up right. Booker T was out to get revenge for his friend against HHH's cronies, but somehow ends up winning a title shot against their leader, the big man himself, HHH. I'm all in favor of a good underdog story with a hint of revenge on the side. All they need to do is actually have Booker T get revenge. Of course, that's easier said than done.

Austin-Rock WrestleMania main event III can't be all that bad, if last night is any indication. Both Austin and Rock are going to be fresh off their latest comebacks, Rock looks like he's further developed his character into a great heel role. He's even mimicking Austin in a way with the lesser hair and vest, while still bringing his own "I'm from Hollywood, because you don't appreciate me!" persona to the table.

Last night, Rock made himself the #1 heel on RAW and, as Scott Keith (*UGH*) pointed out, he did it without squashing anyone and made people buy into his character. In the end, he let Booker T get one over on him and gave him some momentum heading into WM. He even managed to salvage the Hurricaine's character earlier in the evening. He carried the damn show and HHH was nowhere to be seen. That's how things should be done and it just goes to show that WWE really is better off without HHH in any on-screen capacity.

So, if it's Rock/Austin again, I can still go for it. It just goes to show that these two guys are the only ones in WWE worth a damn, which is unfortunate, but as long as WWE continues to screw things up, I'd rather see the two of them contained in their own world and outside of the bullshit so they can do what they do best without worrying about the other crap.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that they gave Booker the nod here. I fully expected Vince to chicken out like he did before WM 17, when he ditched Angle for the Rock to set up a more "acceptable" title match. I love being wrong sometimes.

If they can get him over Triple H convincingly and then have Rock put him over at Backlash before he "retires," they've got a new superstar. Likewise for Jericho getting over HBK, and then beating Austin at Backlash.

All I know is that both those guys in the ring last night better win their WM matchups. Austin owes Rock two and HHH is HHH.

I felt the exact same way!

Do we thank Tommy Dreamer for Booker going over in the battle royal this week, and for Steiner/Booker for going over Evolution last week?

Edit: It was also cool to see Hurricane get some offense on the Rock during the battle royal.

I think the plan for WM17 was always going to be Austin vs Rock, with Austin turning heel in the main event, for months leading up to the event. I think it was solid, at the very least, at the Royal Rumble of that year. When Austin wrestled Angle on RAW in January, that pretty much sealed the deal, because that match established that Austin wasn't going to be the guy to beat Angle.

Angle was always a temporary champ, as WWE was unsure of how to play him up. They're still unsure, about a lot of things.

I wouldn't exactly say that Austin owes Rock anything. Certainly, his win-loss record against The Rock is perfect, and I don't think The Rock has ever won one against Austin in all of the matches they had against each other (Survivor Series 2001 being the only exception), but I could easily see Austin coming out of this one the winner.

The match could go either way, depending on how things turn out. Although, Rock was originally slated to take time off, so that could signal another Austin win. Either way, I don't think either man has anything to lose or gain by the outcome of the match. They'll end up gaining a lot in the months heading into the PPV, though, just by being on TV and showing the world that they're the best at what they do.

I have to agree on most of the comments made, but let me be typical Ringmistress and say that despite being shoved down our throats, saying that HHH shouldn't be on TV altogether is a bit harsh. Absence ALWAYS makes the heart grow fonder. A little less HHH can go a long way, and as much as you want to not see him, he has a Booker T feud to do, so consider yourselves warned for next Monday. I however have been quite bored with HHH for some time. If it wasn't for all the tapes of him I have, well, I'd be as quick as you guys to diss him. So I'll just say I'm annoyed with him at the moment, so I'm keeping myself sane with Randy Orton. 99%!!!!

I'm worried it didn't seem like Booker got that big of a pop when he won last night. I can't recall because I was half asleep but it seemed like it was quiet when he stood up on the ropes. I think he got a big cheer when he knocked Rocky out but after that it went quiet.
I'm going to watch my tape of RAW but can someone please tell me he was cheered.

I think everyone, like me, was in total shock that he won. We were all holding our breath waiting for Chief Morley to reverse the decision, or some technicality to be thrown in Booker's face, or a heel beatdown, OR SOMETHING. It's been so long since Booker went over in grand fashion, it broke the space-time continuum.
I read the net reports and knew they were building Booker/HHH for Mania, and it still was a shocking sight. Imagine the reaction of the casual fans and marks, who are used to Booker being squashed.

I would say Booker HAS to win at Wrestlemania since they've already done a pretty good job of setting up Booker/Rock for Backlash (yes, they ARE planning ahead!). There's no purpose in keeping the title on Triple HGH. Let Booker and HEEL ROCK fight over the belt while Triple HGH fights Austin and that way EVERYBODY'S HAPPY (well...except maybe Hunter).

I marked out like I was 12 years old when Booker won. I was yelling at the TV when he threw Rock out. And Ross sold the upset perfectly. This will be a MONEY match for 'Mania. I'm excited about it, and that's a good thing. Cheers to whoever booked that finish, it was great.

What a nice rub that Hurricane got, too. Rock truly has the Midas touch.

If Booker T wins the title, which I think he will because I think HHH is way more hurt then he's letting on and needs some time off. I worry about AFTER he wins the title. Do they REALLY run with him or does he become Chris Jericho - Undisputed Overshadowed Midcard Champion of 2001/2002?

i have a problem with booker winning the title. the way i feel is, booker's need for the title hasn't been built up at all; the only person on the roster i can think of that has shown himself to have that need thus far is scott steiner. so why not save the payoff until later? make it a good match, have booker come out almost on top, lengthen this feud a little longer. there's history between triple h and booker, but it's already fading. they don't have enough time before mania to build it up; let booker get screwed, either by the other evolution members or the rock, and have the big payoff be at backlash or later. that way, you build up booker's credibility as a possible champion and the anticipation for people to want booker to beat triple h.

i agree that they should have started a hhh -book side feud at least since around rumble, but they stuck him out in the tag team. however i do not agree that they dont have enough time...if booked correctly over they next four weeks he could elevate himelf given good promos and time to kick ass in the ring....they gotta make him crediable enough that he is like rock in ways....good for a laugh but can also get it done 9 times out of 10

I too marked out insanely...sure I'm only 14 but still...I was so damn happy!

I think they have some serious work to get Booker over though. Mainly him prevailing in matches, standing tall after the upcoming Raw's and such.

I figure if we want to capitalize on making new stars..

Mania 19
Austin vs. Rock-Austin
Booker T vs. HHH-Booker T
HBK vs. Y2J- Y2j

Backlash
Austin vs. Jericho-Jericho
Booker T vs Rock-Booker T

basically if Raw was anything like last night but progresses we could see a great feud between Jericho and Booker...

I'm in two minds over this. It seems a bit of a waste to go to the trouble of slow-building a heel stable only to have their top guy drop the belt two months later.

On the other hand, a Booker title win would be devalued a lot by holding it over a month to Backlash rather than go over at WM.

But then Booker isn't super over yet and hasn't had enough big wins to make him so, so maybe a longer build would be better in the long run. Of course they could go for Booker having a REAL long chase and wait till Summerslam to have him go over, but then Trips would have had the belt forever.

I guess I just kinda wish the feud was where it is now directly after the Rumble. Ah well....

I don't think Booker should get the title at WM. As much as it's boring to have HHH as champ, they need to build the Evolution group into something more than bumbling idiots and having their "leader" lose at the biggest show of the year can't help matters. What's more important (for both) is for them to have a great match and steal the show. Having a great match is something they can build on for later PPV's and actually makes fans look forward to the next time they wrestle. If they churn out a 4 or 5 star match and HHH escape by the skin of his teeth, I'm cool with that.

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."
