From Netcop's new Feedbag:

"Anyway, as for the second question, the demise of the I-C title was a rather interesting power play by HHH. He was going to be moved down to #2 heel on RAW (under World champion Brock Lesnar) and put into a feud with RVD over the I-C title, but AMAZINGLY he pitched the idea of splitting up the title again and making himself into RAW's version of the World champion. What a classy and selfless guy he is. Then, in order to make sure that no one (ie, RVD) was able to usurp his position and Lord and Master of the Belt and thus confuse the poor common folk who might exercise free thought and consider his "World title" to be a joke, he pitched the idea of getting rid of the I-C title and thus having one singles belt only. And of course the best way to do that is to put it on his challenger for that month (Kane) and then go over him to unify the titles. If only he'd use his powers for good and not just evil and hair care."

Does anyone have any idea where he's getting this? This is the story I remember, taken from Rajah's site:

"News and Rumors for Sunday, October 13
This may come as news to some of you but the very original plan after Brock Lesnar became a Smackdown! exclusive superstar was to make the Intercontinental title the universal Raw title as it would be elevated and put on Triple H and deemed the WWE title's counterpart. However, these plans were scrapped when Triple H himself voiced his objections to Vince McMahon, mainly saying that at this point it was impossible to elevate the IC title to the level of Brock's title and that anyone (including himself) who wore it would be looked at as an inferior champion. Of course a lot of people will say that is just Triple H's ego taking over, but I think he has a point because there's no way that these two titles are anywhere near equal, especially over the past year or so with the IC title being dominated by guys like Edge, Rob Van Dam, etc. and the world title belonging to such main eventers as Steve Austin, the Rock, Triple H and Kurt Angle."

So is Keith just pulling this out of his ass, or does he have some source that I'm not aware of?

Is there some sort of difference between Keith's version and Rajah's version that I'm not seeing?

Its just different attitudes toward the same story. One feels that Trips wanted two belts to satisfy his own ego, the other thinks he raised objections to prevent RAW as a whole being devalued. I'm sure both have a wealth of 'evidence' to support their views.

Basically, netcop's says Triple H orchestrated to a) split and devalue Brock's title, b) be given a new title equal in value to Brock's, and c) get rid of any other possible competitor titles.

The Rajah rumor says that the powers that be planned to have seperate champions on each show anyway, and planned to have the IC title to be equivalent to Smackdown's heavyweight title. Triple H supposedly said, and rightly so in my opinion, that the IC title was never going to be equivalent to the Heavyweight title, so they brought back the Big Gold belt instead. Notice that this version of the story says nothing about the IC title. In this case, the IC title is merged simply to provide validity to Raw's Heavyweight Title, and has nothing to do with Triple H.

Basically, it's a matter of whether you believe that a) Triple H has complete and absolute power, and gets to decide nearly everything, or b) while Triple H has some power, not everything is his fault.

The difference is that Keith's version includes lots extra little details about that evil bastard HHH, details that were never in the original story that spread around the news sites (not just Rajah's), details that I've never read anywhere else. So either he has some sort of inside source no one else has, or he's just making crap up. And instead just shrugging it off like I normally do, I thought I'd call him on it, just this once.

Honestly, who gives a shit? It's already happened, and no amount of debate over the origins of it happening will change it. And do those who already hate Triple H need any more fuel to do so? Most of these people are already supremely comfortable with either hating his matches, his "politics," or a combination of the two. And those who like him seem pretty decided in liking him in spite of everything they hear. Why bother, at this point?

It's not so much that he has absolute power as that he has the ear of those who do.
So for instance, it could be argued that RVD has too many flaws to be a main eventer.
but it could also be argued that none of the candidates(including HHH)are ideal at the moment and that since they need several top guys it's better to go with an imperfect guy than to have noone at all.
Any decision can be justified. HHH is in a position to make sure the decision that favours him gets the most justification.
