I believe I remember Lucas saying that he considered the original releases "works in progress" and that the Special Editions are the finished product. (A bunch of horsecrap if you ask me.)

Then again, he also said in the past that he was going to make nine movies. I just want the original original trilogy so I don't have to listen to "Jedi Rocks" in the Jabba's Palace sequence
My big complaint about Episode II is that I heard Lucas was going to explain why Qui-Gon didn't dematerialize when he died like Obi-Wan and Yoda did.

Mmmm... Ashley Judd. The perfect woman. 1) Absolutely gorgeous. 2) Loves UK basketball. 3) Was on Star Trek. What more can you ask for?

NERD ALERT~! I think it's because Obi Wan and Yoda just joined with the force. QG got his cocky ass killed.

I agree with Pool-Boy 1,000,000%.
I would also go on record stating I loved both Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. "AND" I enjoyed the enhancements made on the films in the Special Editions. Oddly enough what he changed doesn't change the story in the least bit, so I don't see why everyone is up in arms other than just needing something non-wrestling related to bitch about.

Ahhh, but it DOES change things. In the original, Han blows Greedo away just to make it easier for himself. Afterall, it's all about Han. In the re-make (or whatever the hell it's called), Greedo shoots first, so Han is acting in self-defense. Big change in the character with that move.

The Thrawn Trilogy rocks, by the way. And, if you've never read it, get Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina. It sets the back-story for everyone in there, up to the time when Han meets Luke and Obi Wan. Yeah, it isn't in the movies, but it makes the characters soo cool.

Vader also joined Obi Wan and Yoda, but my reasoning was that Qui-Gon was just your ordinary Jedi, whereas Yoda and Obi-Wan were masters.

I think the official line is that any Jedi who's considered qualified enough to train a Padawan is considered a Jedi Master (regardless of whether he/she/it sits on the Council or not).

Ah, yes, I throw myself into another Star Wars debut where the real winner is nobody. Guys, I love Star Wars as much as the next guy, but I think its time for us to realize a few things.

1) Lucas has already made the money. The machine has been in the works since we bought our first Vaders, Lukes and Falcons in the 80s. Granted the toys are cooler then yesteryear, expect the original Falcon, Slave 1, Carboned Han and the minature sets. Lucas makes money, because we give it to him with a small on our face. The only reason he may need money is for ILM which I'll be more than happy to support. I hate the Lucas needs money theory for the sheer fact it doesn't hold water. The man has more money than Gates, he doesn't need more or I think wants more.

2)Different movies for Different Generations. Special Edition does have some sweet scenes like the fall of Coruscant and the battle at the Death Star plus I liked the Jabba scene for the Fett cameo. Han shots first does piss me off, but I'll live with that if it gets me a cleaned up vidoe and audio. I know dozens of kids how like the new trilogy and SE without seeing the old ones. Can they appericate as much as we did? No, you know why, because they deal in a world where most of these effects are weak. 6 to 10 year olds like Jar Jar and Anakin much the same way we liked the Ewoks and Chewie. They are at that age where this is fun and thats the age Lucas wants. The target audience did not change, it will always be the kids first and us, second. I say good, because this generation gets catered to many times and the upcoming generation needs this films more than we do.

3) Books are cannon, get over it. Chewie and Anakin, Han and Leia's kid are dead and I say good. The books have been critized for not adding to the Star Wars mythos and when they do kill characters, fans just dismiss it, because they never saw it. Its called reading, try it sometime. The Vong storyline is long and there are a few bad books, but overall it feels like Star Wars. As do most of the books like Zhan's first Trilogy. The Vong storyline is very good and probably the best idea Lucasfilms came up minus hiring Zhan.

A Fan- I tire of these fanboy compliants, its like a wrestling thread.

None of that actually bothers me, Fan-I simply hate the fact that Lucas doesn't seem to realise what made Star Wars so popular. It wasn't the state-of-the-art digital graphics and sprawling CGI vistas, it was the grubby charm, the stock characters twisted in new ways, the classic morality tale of good vs. evil. But now that he's got access, Georgie And His Amazing Technicolor Lightbox seems to think that the only thing people wanna see is how clever he and his boyz can be with their technology. And that fucking sucks, because he pays very little attention to anything else.

"Here's the thing: I don't give a tupenny f*ck about your moral conundrum, you meatheaded shit-sack. That's pretty much the thing." Daniel Day-Lewis as Bill "The Butcher" Cutting, Gangs Of New York. You'd be surprised at how many statements this can be used as a response to.

I'm too lazy to go back and look, but someone said Lucas should use less computers. This gave me a funny idea. There is a director named Lars Von Trier, and he's got this concept called 'Dogma 95' where the strict rules confine the directors to filming on location only, impose a ban on background music, insist that cameras be hand-held, demand that films be shot in color, exclude the depiction of murder and the use of weapons, ban genre movies as such, and insist that the director be not given credit. This man would be PERFECT to do the 3rd Star Wars film under those guide lines. That would be so insanely great.

If you've never heard of him, shame on you. He did a tele-series over in Denmark called 'The Kingdom' that ER is based on. Just about every single character you've seen on ER was also in The Kingdom only done BETTER.

Yes those on location shot in space will be great. Plus a fight or two between two Jedi slaping each other because they cant us a lightsaber.

I was refering to the cheesy effects and bad music and how Lucas' name was seemingly bigger then every other name in the credits.

...but if he DID shoot out in space with a hand held camera, we'd never have to sit through a horrible star wars movie again, cause he'd be DEAD!

Shit, I sat through Radioland Murders with the ex, I feel I have a good reason for wanting him dead because of that.

I would still argue that Chewie was a great character, he showed emotion, and could fight. Anakin won a battle by hitting buttons, and Jar Jar never did anything useful the whole movie except start a debate at Duke University about whether or not Jar Jar was supposed to be the racist "black" stereotype character. The Ewoks at least fought for real and didn't trip releasing a million bombs that concidently won the battle. And Chewie.... one grunt from him let out more emotion than Jar Jar the whole movie. Chewie interacting with Han in Empire/Return of the Jedi is so great, and heartfelt. Chewie also not only is your friend, but one hell of a warrior.

I know this is just nitpicking, but "canon" is the word you're all searching for; "cannon" is what Jar-Jar should have been standing in front of as it fired.

I won't get into the Lucas is a racist thing, I find the Black Rage scene in Cashing Amy to be the best response to that.

Now, to this whole Chewie/Jar Jar scene. I will agree Chewie is a great character in Empire/Jedi, but in A New Hope, he is a walking carpet. He has little or no scenes, granted he wasn't as annoying as Jar Jar, which I readily admitt, but his character developed more. I see where Lucas is going with Jar Jar as the annoying yet tradgic figure. Jar Jar is a ban to the older fans, so Lucas in Episode II gave you a reason to hate Jar Jar. However, he is a fun character to the younger fans as is Anakin.

Anakin may have hit buttons to destroy the ship, but it makes sense. He is there for the younger fans to identify with like R2 was in a New Hope. The character is made to be there to get the younger kids in. If you watch a New Hope you can see R2 has a huge role in the beginning and the kids at that time loved him, because he was small, fiesty and neat. Anakin is that small role granted his lines and acting was stale, but he is there for the young kids not for the older fans. You have Qui-Gonn, Obi-Wan, Padme, Mace and Maul for those fans.

As for the final battle in Episode I, I got the goosebumpsas soon as Duel of the Fates hit and I haven't had those since I saw Jedi in the theaters, so I say Episode I worked for me. I will say the Gungans were cool characters its just Jar Jar was a terrible representation of them. I thought everyone could see through that I guess was wrong. I will say I believe the Gungans could beat the Droid Army unlike how the Ewoks beat the Empire. The Gungans had technology and a plan, the Ewoks had rocks and boulders. I say advantage Gungans.

A Fan- As for the indy movie-making keep it in the movies about teen agnst or whatever film those art kids do that makes me want to punch them out.

luke also hit buttons to destroy the "ship"

lucas has said that he loves how you can take a peice of music, raise or lower the notes and get a piece of music that is similar to the first.

that is his plan with the movies.

#1 luke and anakin use the force to guide their ships to victory
#2 luke and anakin lose an arm
#3 luke and anakin will destory their enemies once and for all? (luke with the empire and anakin with the jedi?)
