I thought the pose-down was the highlight of the show. Not trying to start another 'Triple H sux' debate. But when he is the cerebral assassin, using old school tricks and being scary and stuff, the boy is on.
The HBK/Jericho segment was very cool. It reminded me how great of a heel that HBK could be. Only reason why he isn't is probably because it would take from HHH's heat. Anyway Jericho's response was the best. Putting Randy Orton in there was kinda out of place but put he put himself in the mix pretty good.
The rest didn't pass the 2 minute test so it was back to 'Think, Hold that Thought, Complete'
"NOW YOU GET YOUR WHININ ASS OUTTA HERE!!" Sid Vicious after slapping Bret Hart
I liked the show very much as well. I thought the pose-down was entertaining, and a good direction for this particular feud (and Net Hack Slasher described why the psychology works). But I also thought both Steiner and Triple H did a good job of 'hamming' it up. If they played it serious, it would have been boring. But they played it for laughs, and I thought did a good job. I think this is a better buildup than using the random tag-team generator to make matches (and besides, Steiner is not that good in the ring anyway, probably don't want to remind people of that by sticking him in there).
I thought the beat-down was cool as well, though I do understand the criticism of 3MW and Batista, as the pauses were noticable (and at one point, I was sure that they were pausing because 3MW was going to attack Batista. I remember, even if they don't!) But still, it was done well enough.
I guess I may have been the only one not surprise to see Regal and Storm get the belts. I was thinking 'hey, they jobbed to freakin' Good 'Ol J.R., it's reward time.' So I fully expected to see them win the match.
I thought the use of the RNN Breaking News to interupt the Jericho/HBK confortation was very cool.
Originally posted by dMpBetter have a posedown than a random tag team match pitting HHH and Steiner against one another week after week. They do their best to keep it 'fresh' and make the actual match mean something.
I have to agree with dMp on this one, I don't like Triple H (big surprise) and I thought hiring Steiner was one of the worst moves in a while, but i've thought the buildup so far as been good. I mean come on do we REALLY want the alternative to what they're doing which is either A) talking for 20 minutes or B) wrestling. No, I like the buildup so far but it's not going to be a pretty match. So why should we have to see it every week. Maybe the WWE even knows it's not going to be a pretty match and that's their reason for not having the random tag teams like usual. Plus if you keep having two people fight in tag teams then to me when they finally meet at the ppv it is less exciting because they've already wrestled. And the best part of it all is they don't try and pass of these segments as the main event like they have in the past. They should always end the show with a match which is what they have done the past two weeks despite Triple H and Steiner being THE feud right now.
As for the rest of the show... Christian/Jericho/HBK/Orton - I don't really know the point of throwing Orton into the mix here. Maybe he's going to have more to do with Jericho or HBK but to me he just seemed thrown in, although it was good to see him. Christian and Jericho were gold once again in their segment (well your beard is stupid!) I hope once Jericho goes single they atleast stay friends so they can still do backstage segments. And HBK well this is the on person i've been wanting him to face, so for now I'm ok with him being back. Plus i'm interested in seeing which of them will be #1 in the Rumble. I mean if Jericho really does take #1 and there's a big storyline, then he has to go prett far in it or it wouldn't make sense. I could even possibly seeing him win it, then wrestle HBK at the next ppv for the Wrestlemania spot (I know Lesnar is believed to win the Rumble, but he can get his shot at Angle at WM another way)
Women's match: There was nothing outstanding about it, but I didn't want to immediately change the channel like in the past. I have to say I love Victoria right now. But they need to get Jackie out of there, I say turn Molly back to the cute blonde face and let Trish/Molly feud with Victoria/Ivory to get Jackie out of the mix.
Storm/Regal winning the titles was a pleasant surprise to me, I know their main event match with Ross/Lawler was entertaining but it made me mad that they kept talking about Regal and Storm's long winning streak and then it gets broken by two commentators. So maybe giving them titles is a reward for that match?
And i was too disappointed at not seeing Raven, I recorded the entire show to get him on tape!

I agree with that. Me and my neighbor were watching it together last night. Hes the kinda guy when playing SYM he wants to pick a girl to be in our 4 ways just to see the entrance video. WEll during this match he was like i love Trish but i that Jackie is plain ugly as hell and so is molly. I explained to him how molly could be hot but they try their hardest to make her not. Bottom line get rid of Jackie
I really enjoyed this show. THe worst part was the Storm Regal match. Before it came on i said prepared to be put to sleep. You could tell my markish friend was being bored to death as he went from sitting on the couch to stretching out. REGAL SUX- his shit is stale and boring
Two hours and only one good match. The Tag Team Title change was a nice surprise and should have been the Main Event. It looks like they are leading to a three way for the titles but eventually BookerDust will eventually go back to their singles careers and the Un-Americans and The Dudley Boyz will take the spotlight. It's time for Booker's Main Event push.
The Women's Match was boring with one cool spot, the double Boston Crab by Molly and Victoria. Too bad the entire match didn't revolve around that spot. What I mean is that there should have been more of a story revolving around Trish's back so that spot would have meant more within the context of that match, unfortunately the match was just a bunch of moves and stiff chops (I love the chops of the Women's Division, thank you Fit) with no real flow. Molly should have been in the match more, although they are building Victoria as a monster Molly is the better overall wrestler who can maintain continuity during a match, a skill Victoria has yet to master. Molly should have wrestled most of the match with Victoria providing the big monster moves at the end.
The Main Event was boring. The match did not maintain my interest at all. It was just Rob doing has gymnastic spots with the Canadians selling them. Not what I would call a good match.
The posedown was way too long. They really should keep the non-wrestling segments down to less than five minutes. If everything was tighter in that department the angles would be much more memorable. The posedown was just one long ego fest.
I have a feeling the Brand Extension will end soon.
Christian and Jericho were gold once again in their segment (well your beard is stupid!)
And making fun of Christian`s weird rose tattoo! My favorite moment of the night!
And for those complaining about the staleness of the women`s division, don`t forget that Jazz, then Lita, will be back in the coming months to inject some new/old faces into the mix.
The only thing that was going through my head while watching that stale show was, "You guys had 2 weeks to write the show and this is the best that you could come up with?"
The show just seemed so slow and stale. Dunno why, just really was not that interesting of a show. The posedown seemed forced and just not really thought out that well. It was transparent as hell what was going to happen when you see 6 workers get picked out the crowd.
The show was not that offensive, just bleh. The one thing that I hated about it was during the HBK/Y2J interview when they are about to have a match and Orton comes down, so Chris and Shawn stop and wait for him? WTF is that?
January 4th 1999 - The day WCW injected itself with 10 gallons of Liquid Anthrax...AKA...The day Hogan "Defeated" Nash to win the WCW title in front of 40,000.
I had no problem with this show up until the tag team title match. The opening beating was decent (reminded me of Randy Savage getting his ass kicked weekly by the nWo in 1996) and I liked the women's tag team match (although I wish Steven would've Stevenkicked Trish instead of just pushing her over).
I see no reason whatsoever to take the titles off Booker and Goldust at this point, and even fewer reasons to put them onto Storm and Regal, who haven't had heat since the Unamericans went under, and even then barely had it outside of "They hate the US! Boo!". The most heat they got tonight were U-S-A chants. Whoopdedoo.
The loooong and booooriiiing posedown didn't help either. I'm sure pumped up to order the Royal Rumble because the World champion cheated in a posing competition with the #1 contender, yessireebob. You could see the ending a mile away (could they have picked any more obvious plants?) and to make it worse, they took FOR-F'N-EVER getting there, to the point where you're yelling "DOES THIS HAVE A POINT?" at the television.
The main event was decent, but a little picking of nits:
* How unlikely is a team of RVD and Kane when they've been teaming for a few weeks straight now? * How is Jericho brawling with Michaels in the crowd not a countout or DQ or a no contest or SOMETHING? * How is Kane and RVD doubleteaming Christian into oblivion for at least 30 seconds-plus not a DQ? The least Hebner could've done was told RVD to get out of the ring instead of standing there with his thumb up his ass.
I know this is nitpicking what was an okay match, but these things just bug me. After they throw out commissioners and chiefs and general managers enforcing the tiniest of rule violations, then have the basic rules of a match be completely overlooked for no reason, it really bugs me.
I can tell you that I felt REALLY good watching this wreck of a show less than 12 hours after spending $200 buying tickets for my friends and I to WrestleMania.

Jazz = good Lita = not so good
As for Raw, it was nothing special. Jericho continues to be one of the consistently entertaining guys on the show (if not *the* most entertaining), and the 2nd best mic guy (behind Flair) on Raw. I sure hope they plan on using HBK to put over Jericho. I found Orton entertaining, too.
And look at HHH breaking out the "Lex Flexer". Does Palumbo know that's missing?
And *4* tag matches, while there was only *1* singles match, and that was a Test squash? Wassupwitdat?
Matthew: You would've loved it, David. A week in a foreign country, strange people, strange customs... Dave: Oh, I know what you mean. I've been to Canada.
One thing I really liked that hasn't been mentioned was that wicked looking move Victoria & Molly put on Jackie where Victoria had the Camel Clutch applied and Molly went around and did a Boston Crab as well.
And for those that can't understand why Batista and 3 Minute Warning would get along... First, Batista only walked out of the match because Flair told him too, he never had a problem with 3MW. Flair is smart enough to teach someone a lesson and then give them a second chance. 3 Minute Warning, on the other hand, would have a legit problem with Flair & Batista but it's been proven that Rico, Rosey & Jamal always follow Bischoff's orders, so they're not going to defy him by attacking Batista when Bischoff is already in a homicidal mood. See, that wasn't so hard to figure out. It's amazing how much more enjoyable a show can be when you're not nitpicking every little nuance looking for something to bitch about.
True, it was an entertaining show. But the opening squash had me non-plussed (I mean, the Samoan Jobbers?) and the posedown took WAY too long, making the Main Event feel rushed.
But the other stuff was pretty entertaining.

I just thought you guys might like to know that, while it seems WWE is doing some creative new booking with the HHH/Steiner angle, remember that the "random tag team generator" isn't even an option. HHH is injured right now and is healing, that's why they're doing arm-wrestling matches and pose-downs. Rest assured if Trips was at 100% (if that's even physically possible), we'd be seeing Steiner/Kane vs. HHH/Batista on a weekly basis.
Originally posted by Ana NgYou know, I hated RAW, but I did get a kick out of how Triple H tried *so hard* to look like a legit bodybuilder, whereas Steiner just sorta goofed aruond. Knowing H's love for the Mr. Olympia competition, he was probably thinking, "Wow, this is SO COOL!!11".
Meanwhile, millions of wrestling fans are all "What the hell?
Exactly. No one cares about bodybuilding, so all of HHH's little comments were lost on people.

Err, in that case, give me more arm wrestling...

I'm just glad I got bored with the show and turned it off before Booker and Goldust lost. I would have broken my TV in disgust. Storm and Regal have the least heat of any team I have ever seen. The more DASTARDLY~! they try to act, the less anyone cares. Pleh.

*shrug* I've got more important things in my life to dwell on than pro wrestling, so if other people want to get up in arms about it, then that's their business.
I thought the HBK/Jericho/Orton segment was gold. HBK actaully sounded like he was taking Jericho serious, which is more the what HHH did before WM18 when Jericho was the Undisputed Champion. Orton was solid in his part. It did drag it down a little, but I enjoyed the interaction between the three. Christian and Jericho were both great in their "You are... no you are" promo. I thought it was a pretty solid show overall. There has been some improvement over the last few weeks compared to the crap that was on since August.
